A study on Histological Changes in the Gonads, and Changes in Water and Electrolytes in the Uterus and Kidney of Immature Female Rabbits by Reserpine Administration

Abstract
Tranquilizer is recently used in the obstetrical and gynecological field for toxemia of pregnancy and climacteric symptoms for hypotensive and diurectic effects, accompanying not infrequently with various untoward side effects.
Attempt has been made to study the response of the gonads to reserpine and changes in contents of water and electrolytes in the uterus and the kidney of immature female rabbits weighing around 1.5kg by reserpine administration.
A group of rabbits preconditioned with 50 T.U./kg of H.C.G. and another group with 1.5mg/kg of reserpine plus 50 I.U. /kg H.C.G. were observed 24 hours after conditioning.
The results oi,cained were as follows;
1. The H.C.G. preconditioned immature female rabbits showed remarkable acceleration in maturation of the follicles and ovulation in the ovaries while the reserpine plus H.C.G. preconditioned group showed an obvious suppression in ovulation.
2. Water and chloride of the uterine tissue in the H.C.G. preconditioned immature female rabbits showed increase in contents compared to the normal group. On the contrary, sodium, potassium and magnesium were decreased in level in each group. All the above mentioned electrolytes in the reserpine plus H.C.G. preconditioned immature female rabbits were reduced in each level.
3. Potassium of the renal tissue were decreased in level, whereas calcium and magnesium were increased in H.C.G. preconditioned immature female rabbits. In the reserpine plus H.C.G. Preconditioned group, water and potassium were decreased, on the other hand, calcium and magnesium were not altered in the renal tissue.
4. The levels of contents of water of the uterine tissue in normal, H. C. G. precoditioned and reserpine plus H.C.G. precoditioned group were higher than those of the renal tissue.
5. The levels of contents of chloride of the renal tissue in normal, H.C.G. preconditioned and reserpine plus H.C.G. preconditioned group were lower than those of the uterine tissue.
6. The levels of contents of sodium of the renal tissue in normal group were lower than that of the uterine tissue, but in H.C.G. preconditioned group were higher than that of the uterine tissue. In reserpine plus H.C.G. preconditioned group, the level of contents of sodium of the renal tissue also is higher than that of the uterine tissue.
7. The levels of contents of potassium of the renal tissue in normal, H.C.G. preconditioned and reserpine plus H.C.G. preconditioned group were higher than those of the uterine tissue.
8. The levels of contents of calcium of the renal tissue in normal, H.C.G. preconditioned and reserpine plus H.C.G. preconditioned group were exceedingly higher than those of the uterine tissue.
9. The levels of contents of magnesium of the renal tissue in normal, H.C.G. preconditioned and reserpine plus H.C.G. preconditioned group were exceedingly lower than those of the uterine tissue.
